In Family Law matters, Mary Jo knows and understands both sides of the equation, working with the parties involved and their Counsel to guide a solution-focused process and outcome. When children are involved, she possesses the particular skills necessary to focus on their needs and interests to ensure that the best outcomes are met. Nolan Mediation & Arbitration Services is committed to assisting Counsel and families to find alternative and creative solutions that fit the individual needs, unique circumstances and family dynamics of each case referred for Mediation.

Estate Law

Estate disputes often involve intense emotions such as loss, anger, resentment and jealousy, and the public nature of litigation only intensifies these feelings. Mary Jo’s approach to Mediation in Estate matters assists the parties to end the dispute in a reasonable time frame allowing them to get on with their lives. In addition to her position in the Superior Court of Justice, Mary Jo’s unique understanding in dealing with these emotions is enhanced by her past experience as a Social Worker. Prior to her appointment as a Case Management Master, Mary Jo was the Regional Counsel for the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee. In that role and in her subsequent role as a Judge, she has had extensive experience in dealing with Estate matters.

Civil Law

During her years in the Superior Court of Justice, Mary Jo adjudicated complex Civil matters ranging from personal injury, contract, tort, construction and corporate law including shareholder disputes. Mary Jo has served on the Provincial Civil Rules Committee and has also been an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Law, University of Windsor, teaching Civil Procedure and will return to that role during the 2016-2017 academic year.
